Unit 7 · Project 4Final Project
Painted Pillow Front
This is the final step of Unit 7 — painting your canvas panel using the fabric paints and techniques you tested in your swatch log. Work methodically: paint the largest color areas first, let them dry, then add details. Use your swatch log to predict how colors will look and how long to wait between layers. When the painting is complete and fully dry, heat-set it with an iron to make the paint permanent. The finished panel will be assembled into a pillow in a future class session.
Objectives
- 1All traced areas painted — no pencil lines visible in the final piece
- 2At least 3 colors used
- 3Paint is heat-set and permanent
- 4No bleeding under stencil edges — clean, crisp lines throughout
Materials
- Your traced canvas panel
- Fabric paints (your tested colors)
- Brushes and sponges
- Iron for heat-setting (teacher-supervised)
- Reference: your swatch log
Tips & Techniques
1Paint from light to dark — it's easier to paint a dark color over a light one than vice versa
2Let each color dry completely before painting adjacent areas
3Use a hair dryer to speed up drying between sections
4Heat-set for at least 30 seconds per section with a dry iron on medium heat
