Unit 3 · Project 3
Digital Color Map
A color map is a planning document — a digital sketch of your skull showing exactly where each color and pattern will go before you commit to paint. Working digitally first lets you experiment with color combinations, test where your cane slices will be placed, and plan the symmetry of your design without wasting materials. Your color map should show front view with all major color areas labeled and a notes section explaining your design choices.
Objectives
- 1Create a front-view color map of your skull design
- 2Label all major color areas with color names or hex codes
- 3Show placement of cane slice decorations
- 4Include a written design rationale (3–5 sentences)
Materials
- Computer with Canva, Adobe Express, or Google Slides
- Skull outline template (provided as PDF)
- Color reference from your mood board or new palette
Tips & Techniques
1Use the skull template as a base — trace or import it into your digital tool
2Día de los Muertos designs are typically symmetrical — use guides or a center line
3Bright, high-contrast colors read best on a skull form
4Plan your cane slice placement now — they're the focal points of your design
