Unit 5 · Project 2
Idiom Illustrated
Choose an idiom and create a visual interpretation using photography, AI tools, or a combination.
Idioms are phrases that mean something different from their literal words. 'Bite the bullet.' 'The ball is in your court.' 'Burning bridges.' Your challenge is to illustrate an idiom visually — either literally (actually showing cats and dogs falling from the sky) or metaphorically (capturing the feeling of the idiom). You can use photography, Adobe Firefly AI image generation, or a combination of both. The result should be a single powerful image that makes the viewer immediately think of the idiom — even if they've never seen it illustrated before.
Objectives
- 1Choose an idiom from the provided list (or propose your own)
- 2Create a single image that visually represents the idiom
- 3Use photography, AI generation (Adobe Firefly), or a combination
- 4Submit the final image with the idiom text and a brief artist note

5 Day Photo Challenge
Materials
- DSLR or phone camera
- Adobe Firefly (school access)
- Adobe Photoshop for compositing if needed
Tips
- The literal interpretation is usually the most fun — and often the most effective
- If using AI, write detailed prompts — vague prompts produce generic results
- Compositing (combining photo + AI) often produces the strongest results
- Test your image on a classmate: do they immediately think of the idiom?
